Our club was delighted today to have yet another dedicated educator from the Waynesboro Area School district share with us an innovative program that highlights parent and family engagement in our schools. Heather Blount ,a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro Area and an intervention specialist brings a wealth of knowledge and workplace experience to her classes at Hooverville elementary school and was instrumental in creating the Hooverville Hornet Home Connection. This program engages parents with the school and community at large. It utilizes evening family workshops t develop the whole child.
It was an honor to have such a committed educator with us today!!

This year’s Four Way Speech contest featured yet one more way that our Rotary Club interfaces with learners in the Waynesboro School district. Thirteen of these learners competed in the contest with the three finalists personally presenting their speeches to the club on Tuesday. Shown here are the three finalists left to right; Anna Oslikova ( 2nd place), Lexi Marks (1st place), George Beach (3rd place). All three contestants received prize money. Lexi will move onto the Rotary regional finals on April 20. As always we are indebted to the Waynesboro Area School District employees for the time they spend working with us and these young folks in this project. ... See MoreSee Less

We couldn’t have packed more great action into today’s meeting if we tried! We got a sneak peak at the Waynesboro Senior High all-school production of “Into the Woods” with a terrific duet by Kaelin Bowie and Robert Bond. The production runs March 15-17 at the senior high Oyer auditorium. A club assembly with all our committees reporting showed that we live our motto, “Service above self”. We topped it all off with the nominations committee reporting on those members stepping up to the plate for leadership in our club. Stephen Bui reminded us of our ongoing partnership with Hope to Walk, an organization that provides prosthetic legs to amputees and their families in Vietnam. ... See MoreSee Less
